Why You May Not Have Considered One of the Most Powerful Marketing and Branding Tools for Your Business
As a business owner, how often do you sit down for a brainstorming session and try to figure out how to market your business more creatively? It can be a tough proposition, especially if there's more competition for your product than ever. Yet perhaps you are looking too far ahead and simply trying to be too creative in your thought process. Have you considered using something that's theoretically more mundane, but could nevertheless get the job done very well?
Enter the Label
Very few people consider the creative use of the humble label in order to achieve their objective. By using these simple tools, you can not only communicate a message, but also help to build your brand.
The Fundamentals
You do need to bear in mind some important keys, however. When designing a message for your custom labels, never make it too complex, as you want to catch somebody's attention in a very short space of time. The message has to be relevant, logical and productive, or it's just a waste of space, quite literally. It's amazing how many people in your position will try to put as much information into as small a space as possible, so they don't leave anything to the imagination. Remember that function and aesthetics are important.
Simpler Is Better
Any message that is too elaborate is going to miss the target. The design has to be clean and simple. When was the last time that you took a good look at your logo? It may look fine in 40 point, but what does it look like when it is scaled down? If it's too intricate, you've lost the effect. Always use conventional font styles and not something obscure in the hope that it will make you stand out.
What Does It Really Look Like?
You can use any one of a number of sophisticated desktop publishing tools these days to design your label, but always make sure that you reduce it to the actual size on the screen in front of you so that you can see how it will look in real terms.
Contact Details
It's ever more important to include a means of contacting you electronically. Does your website URL help you or hinder you? If it's too long, consider coming up with a shortened version using a forwarding service. Alternatively, create an email address that uses only one word in addition to the domain name.
Planning It Out
If you think this through before you start designing, you can come up with not one, but several different and equally productive campaigns. Don't overdo your use of labels, but certainly consider how this relatively simple tool could be so beneficial to your business growth.
